TCB's Authorized to Grant FCC Approvals for Converged Devices
February 19, 2008: San Diego, CA
During the Telecommunications Certification Bodies (TCB)/Federal Communications Commission (FCC) council meeting, the commission issued new rules for RF exposure testing and TCB submissions.
TCB's are now able to grant FCC approvals for devices that combine a GSM/WCDMA radio and a WLAN radio with certain limitations. One such limitation is that the sum of the SAR values for WWAN and WLAN measured must be below the limit of 1.6W/kg in order to be able to utilize a TCB.
The authorization greatly facilitates the approval process since a TCB has a maximum timeframe of 2 weeks while the FCC route has an average timeframe of 8-12 weeks. For further details, click on the following links. You may also contact your CETECOM representative for more information.
