PRD2.0 Takes Effect for Bluetooth® Qualification
August 1, 2006: Bellevue, WA
The Bluetooth® SIG Qualification Program is undergoing major changes by implementing a Self Declaration Process known as PRD2.0.
PRD2.0 gives Bluetooth SIG members the freedom to qualify and list a product on their own without having to contract a BQB (Bluetooth® Qualification Body), as was required under PRD1.0. However, CAT A testing for RF, Baseband, and Link Manager layers still needs to be performed by a BQTF (Bluetooth® Qualification Test Facility).
Due to the complexity of the qualification process, the Bluetooth SIG recommends the consultation of a BQE (Bluetooth® Qualification Expert – formerly known as a BQB under PRD1.0) for guidance through the listing process and compliance folder review. Obtaining a BQE signoff on a product’s compliance folder will waive the random product audit performed by the Bluetooth SIG under the QEP (Qualification Enforcement Program).
There is a six month transition period starting August 1, 2006, where companies can choose to list their products either under PRD1.0 or PRD2.0. On February 1, 2007, the transition period will end and companies can only list under PRD2.0.
As a BQTF with three BQBs/BQEs in-house, CETECOM Inc. has been actively involved in the development of the new qualification program and will continue to offer a full scope of Bluetooth® services.
