Bluetooth Core Specification Version 2.1+EDR Approved
August 1 , 2007: Bellevue, WA
The Bluetooth SIG announced the approval of the new Core Specification Version 2.1+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate). The new specification offers an improved user experience including:
- Simplified pairing: A consistent and intuitive user experience when pairing Bluetooth devices. A short range technology called NFC (Near Field Communication) can be enabled for quick pairing by holding the devices in close proximity to each other.
- Advances in security: When pairing devices, the link is secured and devices are authenticated. Eavesdropping protection eliminates possibilities of middle man interception.
- Reduced power consumption: A feature known as Sniff Subtrating increases battery life by five times on many devices (mice, keyboards, medical devices, etc.).
- Improved device discovery time and accuracy: Services and features of Bluetooth devices can now be discovered quickly without making a Bluetooth connection.
As a BQTF (Bluetooth Qualification Test Facility), CETECOM is upgrading its BITE Tester to perform testing according to Version 2.1+EDR. Customers can be assured they will benefit from CETECOM's full scope of Bluetooth services.
